Former NFLer Faces 20 Years For Sex With Asst. Coach’s 15-Year-Old Daughter
An Ohio jury found former Bengals linebacker Nate Webster guilty on charges of four counts of unlawful sexual conduct with his former assistant coach’s 15-year-old daughter back in 2009.
Jurors also found him guilty of gross sexual imposition, sexual battery, and a fifth count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, reports ESPN.
According to Webster's attorney, the teenager lied about her age when she began having sexual relations with the 34-year-old football player. Prosecutors, however argued that Webster himself told authorities the minor was 15, when they began engaging in sexual activity. They also contend he threatened to harm her if she told anyone.
Assistant prosecutor, Megan Shanahan, said: "When somebody has a gun with them and tells them I will kill you, your family, your grandparents, your little sisters, absolutely she was afraid to say no"
The former linebacker admits he had sex with the girl but contended that it was consensual and that the sexual relationship began after she turned 16, which is the age of consent in Ohio.
We obviously are disappointed with the verdict in some respects,’ Webster’s attorney, Gregory Samms said after court. He said they plan to file an appeal after sentencing, but said he could not comment on specific issues being considered for the appeal.
Webster faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced.
