The cemetery where the pop icon was laid to rest has been closed indefinitely to the public following a swarm of vehicle traffic Monday afternoon, police said.
The cemetery was open to fans mourning the death of a music legend, however after lines of cars gathered by the afternoon, it prompted officials to make the switch.
“It’s a private property, and it’s up to them to make that decision … it was done in light of the overcrowding that occurred,” Auchter explained. “The cemetery is a maze of very small roads, so if two cars come face to face, you have a … standoff.” — APP.COM
Those with family members buried at the cemetery will be allowed to enter, authorities said.
Police presence will remain around the clock at the cemetery, as well as off-duty officers hired by the cemetery joining the patrol.
