U.S. Announces End of Iraq War

After nearly nine years, 4,500 Americans dead, 32,000 wounded, and more than $8 billion dollars spent, the U.S. has officially shut down the war in Iraq. United States Defense Secretary said the war was worth the price and blood, as it opened a lane for democracy in Iraq.

More than 100,000 Iraqis have been killed in the war since the 2003 invasion of the United States, according to the Iraqi Body Count website.

Bombings and gun battles are still common. The government is also concerned about Iraqi’s security’s ability to defend the nation against foreign threats.
