Tanya Lennon is the owner and CEO of Tanya’s Tasty Treats based out of Dumfries, Va. Tanya’s Tasty Treats is a home based business. She bake cakes, pies and cookies. Everything is fresh and made from scratch. She currently bakes Carrot Cake, Red Velvet Cake, Lemon Pound Cake, Oatmeal Raisin Cranberry Cookies, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Apple Pie, Peach Cobbler, Coffee Cake and Blueberry Muffins. She has future plans to add a few more items to the list. Ms. Lennon has been in business for three years and operates as a sole proprietorship.
Why Entrepreneurship is Important and How You Got Started:
Being an entrepreneur gives me total control to do things my way. I am
the boss.
How I got started: I was invited to a friend’s BBQ about 3 years ago. I was asked to bring a carrot cake. The cake was gone in less than 30 minutes. Before the night was over three people wanted a cake. I thought, “Hmm, maybe this is something I can do on the side…what else can I bake?” I lost my job over a year ago and started baking full time. Through friends and word of mouth orders started picking up. Most of my customers are in New Jersey. I get a new customer every time I’m there. I also have a page on Facebook, Tanya’s Tasty Treats. “Like” my page and feel free to leave a comment about the “Treat” you ordered.
