Asbury Park, NJ – The first school to be named after President Obama may be forced to shut down.

Barack H. Obama Elementary School

About 250 concerned citizens came out last night to Bradley Elementary School to protest against the closing of the Asbury Park elementary school. The proposal to close the school, formerly known as Bangs Ave. school, came suddenly attempting to bring change to a failing school system.

Superintendent, Dr. Denise Lowe, has been trying for more than a year to set up two early childhood centers that would house students if the Barack H. Obama Elementary School were to close. But she is failing to get support on the change from board members.

Some board members questioned the process which lead to another meeting scheduled for 7p.m. March 14 at Asbury Park High School.

Barack H. Obama School is the first to be named after President Obama in the country. Parents at all of the schools have concerns about shuttling children between schools. They are concerned about quality of education, the neighborhood and loss of community schools.
