Local:’Working Toward A Positive Solution’, Concerned Citizens Group – We Want Change

A new organization formed by concerned citizens in Long Branch, NJ held a meeting with members of the community, the housing authority, and the police chief to voice their concerns. ‘Working Toward A Positive Solution’ had a productive meeting underlying all concerns.

‘Working Toward A Positive Solution’ raised a number of questions to the police chief, Lieutenant, and housing authority representatives that were present. It was clear there were issues from police misconduct, if the police were trained in diversity, the new Mr. Buckey James center, and the crisis going on with our youth.

The Police Chief and Lt. McClendon let the citizens know do not hesitate to report and file a complaint of any misconduct. Also, there is a civilian complaint board in place.

One of the main issues was the usage of the Mr. Buckey James Center: Who can use it, and the ban list that exist that allows people not to enter onto the premises. It was expressed that some residents who were once banned and now productive citizens, should be able to have the opportunity to participate in activities.

The concerned citizens also focused on starting a mentorship program. Mr. Carl Jennings, the recreational director made critical suggestions on what we can do as a community to get involved in these young men lives. The visibility of older positive man in their community is something that is needed in the community. The goal is to reach as many young adults as possible. You have the power to make change.
