Greater Long Branch NAACP urges residents to come out to next City council meeting!

On July 15, 2010 the Long Branch NAACP held a meeting at their local office to discuss the need for the people in the community to come out and voice their concerns so that their issues can be addressed at the next City Council meeting. The meeting served as a data gathering section to produce the necessary information that showed how citizens are genuinely fed up with what is going on in their community.

Mr. Reeves, a long time resident of Long Branch reminded the people at the meeting that change can only be made if the people are willing to rally and demand change from their elected officials. He also talked about in 1971 the concerned citizens of Long Branch rallied together to save a black detective’s position so that he would not be demoted in order to bring in somebody white to do the job. You could feel in the meeting how people are willing and ready to fight for change. To find out more about the brain storm before the City Council Meeting on the 27th of this month please come out to have your voices heard and to contribute to the cause. The next meeting is scheduled for the 22nd of this month. The agenda will be finalized at this meeting. Speak Up and Be Heard.

I think that it would be a great idea if you look in to the Ocean palace hilton on ocean ave in long branch. I was a there two weeks ago with some class mates from Long Branch High School class of 75. We were sitting in the tiki bar having drinks. There was about ten of us at first, mostly white. Then after 3 black men from our class arrived we were watched and after the waitress made us pay our tab we were asked to leave and told that they would call the police if we didn't leave . we asked why and they said we weren't spending enough money and ordering drinks. I tried to show the owner my bill and he said he didn't want to see it. One person still had a drink in her hand. I had my 19 year old daughter with me and she could not believe that in this day and age that some think like this could still go on. Just wanted to let you know this.
