Almost a month ago, we posted a poll asking you “Are The Police Doing A Good Job In Your Community?”. The response has been overwhelming as 83.7% said no, 11.6% said they could do better, while the rest said yes. Of course, this is not forty years ago adamantly fighting for civil rights but as I always say “forty years wasn’t that long ago”. As we all know racism and discrimination are diseases that will never go away as much as we want to get rid of them. They are learned behaviors. But what happens when these learned behaviors are carried through to police officers who are supposed to protect and serve? One can say it is a hard being a police officer, as they put their lives at risk everyday. One can also say it is not easy being fearful of those who are supposed to protect and serve you.
Due to the response from the poll, Unheard-Voices has decided to do a series on “How Race and Police Brutality Come Hand-In-Hand”. The series will look at attitudes of police officers, lack of diversity training, race, police brutality, and how we can weed out bad cops. The series will particularly focus on New Jersey, which is known to have some of the worse cases of police brutality and discrimination.
The video below, is not part 1 of the series, but a snippet of what is to come. In the meantime, please vote on the poll if you haven’t and share your thoughts.
