LONG BRANCH – Long Branch Mayor Adam Schneider won re-election tonight in a race that turned ugly last week when a witness in a federal corruption trial claimed to have bribed the mayor of the city.
Schneider beat Councilman Brian Unger 2,473 to 1,610 for a sixth term, according to unofficial results.
Disgraced real estate developer Solomon Dwek testified in the federal corruption trial of state Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt about the public officials he said he bribed over the past decade. Without naming names, he said he bribed the mayor of Long Branch and council people in the city.
Schneider vehemently denied taking a bribe from Dwek or a middleman.
