Dorothy Height, who as a longtime president of National Council of Negro Women, and an instrumental female voice during the civil rights era in the United States has died. She was 98.
Height, died at 3:41am at Howard University Hospital, said a hospital’s spokesman, Ron Harris.
Height was honored and awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994 by President Clinton and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004. Height, was also one of several African American leaders who meet with President Obama recently for a summit on race and economy.
